Lancashire need a top class opener to compliment there very good upper middle & middle order batsmen. To often this season we have had to lean on Loye & Law to get a big score, they can't do it all the time.
Who is your first choice opening pair at the moment?
Lancs use Sutcliffe & Chilton as openers in first class matches but Sutcliffe doesn't play in any A list games. In first class matches this season Chilton averages 34 & Sutcliffe 32 (compared to Hodge who in 7 inns averaged 101, Law 60 (13 inns) & Loye 45 (14 inns)) But Chilton only aves. 20 in A list games, while his usual opening partner in these matches, Loye, aves. 75. He is in there because he's captain so what's the solution. My idea would be to keep Chilton as opener (& captain) for first class matches but drop him in A list games & appoint Law as captain for these matches. I'd be interested in what other Lanky fans think of this.
