Darren Maddy hit a superb unbeaten 167 for Leicestershire to dash Scotland’s hopes of ending their C&G Trophy campaign with a win in Edinburgh.
However, the Saltires salvaged pride in the performance of Gavin Hamilton who notched a superb 131 before the home side fell 53 runs short of the Foxes’ total of 314 for three.
Maddy, the former England batsman, dominated proceedings on his way to his highest one-day score.
The hard-hitting opener went through the gears after playing second fiddle to Darren Robinson (40).
His first fifty came from 80 balls but he accelerated impressively as the visitors added 95 runs from the final six overs of their innings.
Maddy finished unbeaten on 167, having faced 145 balls and hit 15 boundaries and seven mighty sixes.
Hylton Ackerman (43) and John Sadler (41 not out) offered excellent support while Paul Hoffmann was the only Saltires bowler to escape punishment, taking 1-25 from 10 tight overs.
The Saltires were in danger of a humiliating defeat after losing Corey Richards and Ryan Watson for ducks to leave them struggling on 16 for two.
However, former Yorkshire and England all-rounder Hamilton hit his first one-day century against county opposition as the Scots rallied.
The Broxburn-born star faced 128 balls for his 131 which included 12 fours and two sixes before he became one of man-of-the-match Maddy’s three victims.
Neil McCallum lent support with his maiden half-century for Scotland.
