Club Cricket
« on: June 05, 2006, 23:17 PM »

Whilst i was enjoying my sunday roast at a local cafe on Sunday. I managed to catch a bit of local club cricket. The game was very entertaining, with a six straight down the ground bouncing around the cafe's porch!

It also had the classic fast bowlers 14 ball goodness knows how many runs off the over. Their were wides, no balls (including a couple of beamers!) and a few regular boundaries aswell.

Its fun to watch grass roots stuff. I'm off to watch my nephew play tomorrow evening.

Just got back from watching my nephew, and it did'nt go well. They lost by 70 odd runs. He did okay fielding apart from one hitting a divot and bouncing over his long barries for four, batted last (his first time batting) and was stumped swinging at a wide one  Sad

My lad did well today for his under 11's side. He only bowled 4 overs and managed 3 wickets.  Grin

He is a very good bowler (leg spin) but he really needs to improve his batting. This is his first year using the hard ball and he is a bit nervous of it  Embarrassed

I take him to private coaching once a week and they are really good with him and he is improving with the bat slowly week by week.

I tried giving him a few tips!!!  Huh

To be honest, i think its a case of nerves and confidence, he needs to shout a little louder when they are choosing the batting order!

I was never great with the bat, but i earned my place in the team by being hard to get out, when i was in the right frame of mind, i could almost block anyone all day long.

If i had played more cricket i think i'd have developed more as a batsman. It did'nt help that i stopped playing when i was about 18, started again when i was 20 and have stopped again now! (Distracted by Beer and women!  Grin)

I think its a case of the more he plays the better he'll get.

Watched him again yesterday, he batted second to last, but managed to get one run before being bowled. The opposition had some lively bowlers and got them 39 ao!  Shocked
