Somerset hit the highest score in the brief history of Twenty20 as they began the defence of their title in style.

Skipper Cameron White led the way with an unbeaten 116 off only 53 balls, including nine sixes, as they got 250-3 against Gloucestershire at Taunton.

Fellow Aussie Justin Langer hit four maximums in his 90 off 46 balls, while Ian Harvey (3-46) was the best bowler.

Somerset's score easily beat the 228-5 they scored in 2005 against the same opponents at the same venue.

somerset win by 117 runs. gloucester out for 133. cameron white.................... AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the highest score in both domestic and world 20/20. Not a bad effort!
