Surrey have registered former England leg-spinner Chris Schofield until the end of the season. Schofield was released by Lancashire in 2004 and was working as a painter before training at The Oval recently.
He made his debut in Sunday's Pro40 victory over Yorkshire, taking a wicket and going for 39 runs in eight overs.
Surrey are suddenly short of spinners after Anil Kumble returned to India with a shoulder problem and Ian Salisbury injured his knee.
Schofield, now 27, was given an England central contract in 2000 but failed to take a wicket in his only two Tests.

I saw him bowl in today's match - he bowled very tidily but to be honest Yorkshire were already 70-odd for 5 when he came on. He only had one expensive over though.
Too good a player to be lost to county cricket - I hope we offer him a contract for next season as clearly Salisbury isn't going to go on for many more seasons. The question is whether he wants to bide his time in the seconds waiting for Salisbury to retire.
