England vs Pakistan - 1st Test
« on: June 30, 2006, 11:40 AM »

I'm looking forward already to the first test.

Who would your team be?

I'd go for:

Trescothick
Strauss
Cook
Pietersen
Flintoff
Collingwood
Dalyrmple
Jones
Plunkett
Hoggard
Harmison

I can't see Monty being dropped but would like a little more batting up top.

When is Anderson going to be fit?

More to the point, when is Flintoff going to be fit? He's not guaranteed to play in this match.

It will be interesting to see if Dalrymple is preferred to Panesar. Much better batsman of course, but is he a Test class bowler?

I'm not sure but we need to sort that no.8 batting slot.

It would be a shame to see Monty dropped because he is the best english spinner available but its him or Plunkett i guess.

I'd also be tempted to take a look at a different keeper with the winter tour in mind.

Matt Prior would be my choice, but it looks like Read and even Foster may be ahead of him now.

Thursday, 13 July. Just over a week away - not much recovery time for Freddie!

At least the test team is a little more settled and established than our current one day team.

Whats the new on Flintoff?

Flintoff could be back for the second Test. But there's a doubt about Hoggard now! He's had an injury to his bowling hand, "accidentally" caused by England rival Tim Bresnan. Bit suspicious, that.  Wink

Freddie played a 20/20 match for Lancashire yesterday and is set to play again on Tuesday night.

I guess providing he suffers no setbacks it just be a case of proving his fitness for the second test.

Yes, encouraging return for him. He's hoping to play a Championship match as well.

Any news on the team?

We really could do with Hoggard being fit.

I think Plunkett is a better choice than Mahmood, but i'd rather Jon Lewis.!
Strauss away to a flyer.!

Lewis and Mahmood left out. I wonder if Lewis will play in Gloucester's game today.

Good start: 39-0 after six overs.

But I wish Henry Blofeld wouldn't keep saying "Gul is in."  Shocked
