England Vs Pakistan - 2nd Test - 2006
« on: July 24, 2006, 09:36 AM »

The squad has been announced, 14 man squad with Jamie Dalrymple called up, Liam Plunkett is suffering from a side injury and struggling to be fit.

A Strauss (capt), M Trescothick, A Cook, K Pietersen, P Collingwood, I Bell, G Jones (wkt), L Plunkett, M Hoggard, S Harmison, J Lewis, M Panesar, S Mahmood, J Dalrymple

Who would Dalrymple replace if he was to play?

Surely even on a supposed spinning wicket we would'nt play Dalrymple, Monty and only 2 recognised seamers? Or is it time for Paul Collingwood to stake his claim as a genuinly useful test allrounder?

Well Dalyrymple has been released back to Middlesex, so i would assume that Mahmood will replace the injured Plunkett.

Will be interesting to see how he perfoms after his disastrous one day international displays!

Personally, i'd like to see Lewis get a game, but they are very different bowlers, and Mahmood would suit the Australian tour more next year.

Maybe Lewis should play at Headingley, though that will depend on how Mahmood does here. We have a horrendous tail now.

Heard any team news yet? Yesterday they were still talking about Mushy playing for Pakistan.

Yeah he would be a big threat. Apparently Old Trafford doesn't turn as much as it used to though.

Mushy is in a squad of 12 for the Sussex game today, probably indicates that he won't feature for Pakistan.

I am worried about our tail, its certainly an issue and one the selectors seem to ignore.

It could have possibly been helped if Monty was dropped and Dalrymple had played, or even someone like Clarke too Plunkett's posuition, not sure what Clarkes bowling is like though.

Or both changes! Then Geraint Jones could have batted no.9!  Crazy 2

Even as a Surrey supporter I wouldn't say Rikki Clarke's bowling is good enough to take Test wickets for England. He could only play as one of four seamers. I would like to see Collingwood doing more bowling while Flintoff is absent.

Don't know enough about Clarke but i agree with you on Collingwood, if he could turn himself into that 4th seamer with Flintoff and two others, we could be in business.

I don't understand why he does'nt bowl more at test level.

Well this is England, we usually have a start or do something well and then let the opponents off the hook, it would be nice to see us nail someone!
