Worcestershire have offered veteran former England batsman Graeme Hick a new contract for next season. Hick, 40, is in his 23rd campaign at New Road and last month made his 100th first-class century for them but his deal expires at the end of the season.
Chief Executive Mark Newton said: "We recently discussed the situation with him and would love to see him continue to re-write the record books here.
"The offer has been made and Graeme has asked for time to consider it."
Hick has made 598 runs in 10 Championship matches this year and has spoken of his desire to continue playing.
He told the BBC's Test Match Special in June: "If I finish the season as I do now, enjoying the game and contributing, I'd like to carry on.
"I don't want to retire just because I'm 40, you're a long time retired, but if I do carry on it will be something I take year by year."

Hick commits to Worcs Former England batsman Graeme Hick has signed a new one-year contract with Worcestershire.
The 40-year-old, who is in his 23rd season with the county, had attracted interest from Derbyshire as his current deal expired at the end of this campaign.
However, Hick, who recently became the second player since the war to score 100 first-class centuries, has decided to stay on at New Road.
“I am delighted to have resolved the situation,” he said.
“My heart has always been with Worcestershire and I very much look forward to the next 12 months.”
Chairman John Elliott added: “Graeme is a legend of Worcestershire cricket and I am delighted he is to continue his long career with us.
“This is very good news and will end any speculation there might have been about his immediate future.”
Should give Hick enough time to pass Sir Jack Hobbs first class career total of 61,237 runs. Of course, that's including List A one day runs as first class. Let's call them first class level runs.
