Worcestershire finally win a game
« on: July 08, 2006, 10:27 AM »

Worcestershire got off the mark at the sixth time of asking in this year's Twenty20 Cup to hand Warwickshire's quarter-final hopes a major setback.

The visitors' 186-5 at Edgbaston featured Ben Smith's 69 not out, Vikram Solanki's 43 and Lou Vincent's 40.

Warwickshire's reply all centred around a tremendous unbeaten 75 from Jon Trott but his team were four runs short of victory after the final ball.

Zaheer Khan and Roger Sillence were economical and took two wickets each.

A crowd of more than 15,000 had been kept in the dark about the state of the game when both scoreboards shut down during a powercut halfway through Worcestershire's innnigs.

What information there was dribbled out through the public address system between overs.

At least there was an improvement in the service when the announcer went into the scorer's box to supply regular updates as Warwickshire's stumbled into problems in their reply.
